The last free practice session ended in a similar sight at Monza, as
Ferrari's
Sebastian Vettel finished first, with the German leading Lewis Hamilton and
Kimi Raikkonen.
Monza was still drying up from an earlier shower at the track, but it was dry enough for the drivers to run on dry tyres. At the start it did cause some lack of grip at times, with several drivers going straight on the first chicane, but no accidents happened.
When the top teams emerged from the pit, it was Kimi Raikkonen who went first. He took a commanding lead, only for Sebastian Vettel to trump the Ice Man.
That remained for a long time, the Ferrari one-two, until Lewis Hamilton pumped the gas. The Brit flew to P2, only slightly behind Vettel, but beat Kimi Raikkonen. Bottas was in P4, beating Max Verstappen, who was all the way in P3 until the last part of the session. The Dutchman ended fifth, but half a second and three places above Daniel Ricciardo, who disappointingly ended eighth.
In P6 it was the Haas of Kevin Magnussen, who led the midfield, and Esteban Ocon followed the Dane in his Force India in P7. Promising signs for both teams, especially as Renault again struggled and couldn't finish higher than P12, which is outside of the points.
Charles Leclerc impressively finished in P9, seven places above his teammate Marcus Ericsson, meaning the rear wing of the Saubers is probably fixed and won't send them into the barriers again, like it did on Friday.
