Lando Norris is keen to get back behind the wheel at McLaren after his second outing was affected by weather conditions. The Brit took over driving responsibilities from Stoffel Vandoorne during FP1 at Monza but the downpour before the session meant meaningful running was difficult for the F2 driver.
Speaking after his stint in the MCL33, Norris admitted that the conditions didn't help his performance and that another chance at the wheel would be something he will be hoping for very soon.
“I would hope because I didn’t get many laps today they would make up for it,” Norris is quoted by F1Today. “But I’m not too sure. Of course I’ll be pushing as much as I can and asking for it but it’s not up to me. I’ll see what happens.”
“Obviously if they would like me to be in the car and improve and if I have a chance of driving next year they would want me to improve and use every opportunity possible. So we’ll wait and see what happens and see how this weekend goes. I’ll get my feedback on how I did and go from there.
“I was in his car, we were in the briefings together, everything was fine. Until you get to the situation (where) you’ve signed and he’s not or something, like has happened in the past, that’s probably when it gets awkward. But for the moment everything’s cool.”
Norris is one of four drivers who are in contention for a seat at the McLaren team for 2019, with Sergio Perez, Esteban Ocon and Stoffel Vandoorne the others in contention to line up alongside Carlos Sainz at the team next season.
