After two Grands Prix in Europe, Formula 1 makes a brief journey into North America. At the illustrious Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada - with its famous wall of champions - Max Verstappen and his Red Bull will continue in his hunt for a third consecutive world title. Find out what time all sessions are during the 2023 Canadian GP here.
Verstappen flies to Montreal from Monaco full of confidence, knowing that he has won the past three races, in Spain moreover by a huge margin. Teammate Sergio Perez, his main rival in the battle for the championship, meanwhile faces a 53-point deficit. In Montreal, the Mexican cannot really afford another defeat.
It will also be interesting to see how Mercedes will fare after its fine performance in Barcelona: were the successful updates there a first step towards recovery or was there a short-lived revival in Spain? And will Aston Martin recover after a lesser result in Spain, Fernando Alonso's home race?
The Formula 1 organisers announced last week that the Montreal Grand Prix will go ahead as normal. That sounds like an odd comment, but the Canada is currently ravaged by hundreds of large forest fires. This is causing a lot of smog, including in the province of Quebec, of which Montreal is the largest city. Still, no problems are expected in the race weekend.
