Charles Leclerc has a contract that will see him stay Ferrari beyond the 2024 Formula 1 season. The man from Monaco joined the Italian team at the start of the 2019 season and quickly impressed. Things went so well that Leclerc signed a long extension at the end of 2019. Before the start of the 2024 season, Ferrari confirmed Leclerc will remain with the team beyond 2024.
The deal he signed in 2019 was so long that it still has another season to complete (as of January 2024). After beating teammate Sebastian Vettel in the 2019 World Championship, it made a lot of sense at the time. Leclerc showed plenty of promise and convinced the Italian team that he would be the one to beat Mercedes when they finally had a car capable of doing so.
When the new 2022 regulations were introduced, Ferrari had a quick car capable of winning races. However, the team haven't developed optimally, so Leclerc is still without a World Championship. In fact, he hasn't been able to fight for one consistently throughout the year, such has been the dominance at Red Bull with Max Verstappen.
It's not yet clear whether Ferrari will be able to bridge the gap in the short term. With Fred Vasseur now at the helm, Ferrari have been performing to their maximum more often. But the car remains far behind that of Red Bull. Leclerc has the confidence in Ferrari to secure his place at the Italian team in 2025.
