Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes his team are stronger than they were 12 months ago. As teams head towards Montreal, the Silver Arrows have a 22 point lead over their Italian rivals.
Lewis Hamilton leads the drivers' championship by 14 points after winning both the Spanish and Azerbaijan Grands Prix. Ferrari started the season strongly beating Mercedes in most departments, but have since dipped.
“After six races, we can see that we are in a stronger position in both championships than we were 12 months ago,” said Toto.
“But we also know that the battle is more fierce, with ourselves, Ferrari and Red Bull in the contention for race wins every weekend; there is not a moment to relax.
“We will need to make sure we get the most from all the tyre compounds, including the hypersoft if we want to come out on top this weekend.”
After six races last season, both Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari were first in their standings.
