Spain is traditionally an interesting race, with teams bringing hefty upgrades to sunny Barcelona.
Mercedes will be hoping for some upgrades to give them some breathing space at the top of the Constructors’ Championship.
Mercedes have won the last four titles and are looking to become the second team to win five in a row, after Ferrari between 2000 and 2004.
The start of the European period in Formula One, and always sees big upgrades.
Wolff said: “The European season is also the time when teams start introducing bigger upgrades to their cars.
“It’s the first step of the development race that looks like it could run to the very end of the season.”
Ferrari and Red Bull are much closer to the Silver arrows than in previous years, and these two teams have won three of four races so far.
Wolff added: “It will be interesting to see how much performance the teams can find with their upgrades and what impact those upgrades will have on the team ranking – both at the front and in the midfield.”
The midfield is also tightly packed, and the Spanish Grand Prix could show us which team can kick on and take a stranglehold on that midfield pack.
