Everyone saw it, of course. The skirmish between George Russell and Max Verstappen. Everyone is forming an opinion and then, of course, Toto Wolff cannot be left out. The Mercedes boss thinks Verstappen is only racing differently against Lewis Hamilton and not necessarily Mercedes.
"They collided, he had a big hole in the car and that's certainly sub optimal for your race. It's absolutely understandable that he's upset. On the other side, Russell defended a position. And that's also clear that they're going to do that. So it's not the first time I guess they had the situation between each other," Wolff is chronicled by Motorsport.com.
As Verstappen has clashed with Lewis Hamilton several times in the past, the incident with Russell suggested that the Dutchman might choose to race more aggressively with the Mercedes formation than with other teams. Wolff refuted this and, however, saw nothing strange in the incident in Baku. He felt it was just "two young drivers" sticking out their elbows.
Wolff also made it clear that he felt any driver who tries to hold around the outside as Verstappen did is taking a risk. "If I'm Russell, I'm doing exactly the same, if I'm Max, I'm upset,” the Austrian said.
