Lewis Hamilton almost managed to take his first win of the season after all, but in the end, Max Verstappen was also the strongest in Mexico. In any case, the Mercedes team's performance - also thanks to the high altitude at which the Grand Prix was held - gave team boss Toto Wolff a lot of confidence.

In a press release from his team ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix, Wolff once again looked back at the race in Mexico. "It was encouraging to be in the fight for the win, showing how far we've come since the start of the year. While we're always aiming for the top spot, we should be proud of that progress and we're aiming to keep it going through the end of the year and into 2023," Wolff said.

The season is also nearing its end for Mercedes. Before the final race in Abu Dhabi is scheduled, a weekend with the final sprint race of the season awaits at Interlagos. Last season, Hamilton drove his probably best Grand Prix of the year there in Brazil. Earlier this week, the Briton was even named honorary citizen of the country.

Naturally, Mercedes and Hamilton therefore want to shine in Brazil, but Wolff warns against too much optimism. "On paper, it shouldn't be quite as strong a circuit for us as Mexico, but regardless, we want to keep up our momentum from recent races. So, we will keep working hard to hopefully be in the mix once again."
