Zak Brown,
McLaren's CEO, has commented on the incident which cost
Carlos Sainz from having a decent race in Bahrain. The Spaniard touched
Max Verstappen's Red Bull in the early stages of the race and left the
McLaren with a puncture. The stewards decided it was a racing incident, but Brown had more to say.
"Based on the onboard images, I would say that the turn was Carlos," he told
Motorsport-total.com. “It was a racing incident, but Carlos was driving far enough for him so that the turn was his, which meant Max should have made room. We know, however, that he is not doing that," he continued.
Sainz now has two DNF's to his name in 2019 after an MGU-K issue stopped him from finishing the Australian Grand Prix. Brown believes Sainz would have finished with a decent points tally had the contact been avoided.
"At that time Carlos was faster than Max anyway, I wouldn't say that without the incident he would have finished fourth, but..." the American added.
