Guanyu Zhou will start the Singapore Grand Prix from the pit lane. The Chinese is getting a new engine and will therefore not be on the grid with his Alfa Romeo.
It is not a weird decision by Alfa Romeo. Zhou qualified nineteenth on Saturday and would only have Lance Stroll behind him. With the Canadian not fit enough to take part in the Grand Prix, Zhou would be the last man on the tarmac anyway.
The driver, who saw his contract extended through 2024, will now not lose position by starting from the pit lane. On top of that, it could save a possible subsequent grid penalty for another Grand Prix.
