Mick Schumacher is said to have started negotiating a 2023 contract extension at Haas for the first time after months of doubt. The German still does not have a seat for next season.
Haas starts talks with Schumacher
Team boss
Guenther Steiner shouted for months that the team was in no hurry to sit down with Schumacher to discuss his contract. According to
Sky Germany, the German is now negotiating a new deal with his team for the first time.
Reports surfaced last month that Haas were in talks with
Nico Hulkenberg for the
Formula 1 seat in 2023. The former F1 driver and Schumacher are said to be the two remaining candidates for Haas. The team would delay the decision until the end of October, after the Mexico Grand Prix.
The names of
Daniel Ricciardo and
Antonio Giovinazzi have also been mentioned. However, Ricciardo does not seem to be a realistic option. Giovinazzi would have a chance of getting the seat because of his ties with
Ferrari. In any case, it seems that Schumacher has been able to prove himself after all, as talks between the young driver and Haas are said to have started over the weekend of the
Singapore Grand Prix.
