In his new
blog post Formula 1 journalist Joe Saward writes about various rumors in the sport. According to Sky Sports,
Williams would be interested in
Oscar Piastri, but Saward indicates that
Nyck de Vries is also still on the team's radar.
According to Saward, everything in the paddock indicates that
Fernando Alonso will soon sign a new two-year deal with Alpine. The Spaniard would then stay with the team until the end of 2024.
Teammate
Esteban Ocon 's contract also runs until the end of 2024, leaving Alpine junior
Oscar Piastri to look elsewhere for a seat. The Australian is a great future talent with wins in the
Formula 2 and
Formula 3 championships in his rookie year.
Does Williams have an interest in De Vries?
Sky analyst Ted Kravitz already revealed during the
Imola Grand Prix that Williams would be interested in Piastri for 2023. However, the team also wants to build its own driver squad.
"In this respect Piastri does not fit in and the team would be better off going with Nyck de Vries. Down at Williams, they quite like the look for the strong-jawed Dutch imp", writes the F1 journalist.
According to Saward, Nyck de Vries is still being tipped for the spot at Williams. The
Formula E champion will have to look for something else in the future, as Mercedes will soon be stepping out of the electric series.
