Vandoorne drove the
McLaren car yesterday but having stopped twice whilst out on track, and then retiring early from the day due to another issue, it’s not surprising that he wasn’t too impressed with the car.
It’s been well documented that McLaren have finally ditched Honda as their engine manufactures, but the new
Renault engine is letting the team down after battery issues in yesturday's testing.
Similar problems were also experienced by Red Bull, who also use a Renault engine.
Renault were questioned as a result of the fault and Bob Bell commented: “We’re using all the batteries in testing, choosing the best ones for the rest of the season.
McLaren have the experienced
Fernando Alonso at the wheel today but Vandoorne has spoken out about his concerns with the car after yesturdays performance.
“It’s true. It was a very difficult day for us.
“We had a lot of technical problems and now we have to find solutions. We have only three days of testing left and we need this preparation for Melbourne.”
Despite this, the McLaren boss seemed much more laid back and said he wasn’t “overly concerned” about the battery problems.
Renault driver Sainz hasn’t expierenced the problems at first hand but admits “we must carefully study what happened to them.”
“If they are related to the Renault engine, we will deal with them.”
McLaren have put Alonso out on track early this morning.
