Toto Wolff, boss at Mercedes expects title rivals Red Bull and Ferrari to be much stronger producing a serious and season long three-way fight for the World Championship.
The Silver Arrows have been on top by some margin since the 2014 season winning all four constructors championships since then.
Ferrari and Red Bull managed to close the gap slightly last season and Vettel managed to have a significant Championship lead over Hamilton after the first part of the season.
But it wasn’t enough to trouble Mercedes.
With full focus now turned towards 2018, Wolff believes that his rivals have better cars that will push them further in individual races and the in quest for the Championship.
Wolff said: “What we have seen from Red Bull (in pre-season testing) is that they have a very strong package. I think they will be very much in the game for race wins and the championship itself.
“I think it will be all three of us against each other.
“Honestly, I am excited by the prospect of a tough battle.
“We have a worst case and a best case. What we have seen is that even if it is best case we are not in front by a lot, and if it is a worst case, we are not far behind.”
Overall, last week Mercedes topped the timing charts. So far this week, Ferrari have managed to come out on top winning yesterday’s session.
Could this be the year where Red Bull and Ferrari challenge Mercedes throughout the whole season? The neutral will hope so!
