Why the weight of F1 cars will suddenly be so important in 2022

There has been a lot of talk about the weight of Formula One cars since the new regulations. In a new video by Peter Windsor Craig Scarborough explains why that's not crazy after such a big rule change.
With a completely new set of aerodynamic regulations, the designers and engineers of the F1 teams for 2022 had to work hard again. In the search for the fastest car, everything was done to outdo the competition, but in 2022 another component proved interesting as well.
Overweight in F1
The lower weight limit has proved too high for many teams. According to Scarborough, this is due to safety components that have been added to the car, but also to new parts that need to be developed. It is a choice between a new and heavier update or a simpler model that is lighter.
Many teams are now doing all sorts of things to get those kilos off. Red Bull Racing is said by Helmut Marko to be over ten kilos heavy and at Williams, they are even scraping paint off the car to save weight. These developments are very remarkable according to the technical expert.
