There was plenty of attention within
Formula 1 during the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend for
Sebastian Vettel's farewell, but he is not the only driver who will be missed by his team. While
Pierre Gasly is not leaving the sport, he is leaving his trusted AlphaTauri behind.
Guard of honour for Gasly
All
F1 drivers formed a guard of honour for the retiring Vettel prior to the Abu Dhabi GP. A similar scene could be seen outside AlphaTauri's garage, where the team formed a guard of honour and applauded Gasly. The Frenchman is leaving for Alpine next year and will certainly be missed by his team. Gasly himself already indicated that he will miss his teammate
Yuki Tsunoda.
Gasly will drive alongside his old rival
Esteban Ocon in 2023, after Fernando Alonso left an empty seat with his departure to Aston Martin. The vacant seat at AlphaTauri will be taken by
Nyck de Vries, who scored highly with his GP debut at Monza.
