The FIA has told
Formula 1 teams they can hang mirrors from the Halo device. They must comply with all current regulations but the green light has been given.
The halo has perhaps been the major talking point of the F1 cars this season, and once again they have been brought back to attention. The storm started when drivers suggested it is hard to see what is behind them.
The mirror will be minimum 150mm x 50mm dimensions and must pass the rear vision test.
A statement sent to F1 teams said: “We expect that you will be able to satisfy us that the installation is sufficiently rigid to ensure that the mirror does not vibrate too much, which would limit driver visibility.”
"We will not accept a dual mirror mounting (Halo + traditional survival cell), as this could cause delays in the event a rescue team had to remove the Halo following an accident.”
