Stoffel Vandoorne claims he needs to improve on his starts in order to match Fernando Alonso’s results and performance. The start of the race this weekend is all the more important with overtaking very tricky in the streets of Baku.
Vandoorne has finished in the points twice this season but missed out in China as a result of a poor start and he insists he needs to remove this personal issue.
“I’ve not had the best starts over the last couple of races and with overtaking tough in Baku we need to try to maximise our starting position,” said Vandoorne.
McLaren had a positive race last season in Baku, scoring their first points of the season.
“You literally drive through the historic centre of the old town which was a really cool experience last year, and overtaking is tricky on the narrow streets.
“Saying that we saw anything but a professional race last year and hopefully we can take advantage of any drama that this track throws at us next weekend.”
With the removal of the starting issue, we expect Stoffel to finish well into the top 10.
