The Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona has announced that they are going to modify turn 10. This after recommendations of the FIA and FIM. Both Formula 1 and MotoGP are racing on the circuit.
It's not the first time the hairpin corner has been adjusted. In 2004 it was replaced by a slower hairpin corner, and a chicane was added before the final corner. However, MotoGP continued to use the old layout until the fatal accident of Moto2 driver Luis Salom in 2016.
After this accident, which took place in the penultimate corner, MotoGP took measures and had a larger exit lane constructed. However, they continued to use the Formula 1 version of turn 10.
The circuit organisation has now announced that the corner will be modified again in 2021. The renewed version would bring the corner back to its pre-2004 original state, and will therefore be a bit faster and have a larger radius.
