Sebastian Vettel has signed a new contract with Aston Martin for 2021. The team currently racing as Racing Point have not announced anything about the deal, but German media know the salary and duration of Vettel's contract.
Vettel was told at the beginning of 2020 that he had to leave Ferrari and since then people have been wondering what Vettel was going to do. It turns out that Aston Martin and the German Bild have more clarity about the contract. Of course, Vettel received a decent salary at Ferrari as a four-time world champion, but he has to sacrifice some of that.
According to the German medium, Vettel will earn 15 million Euros a year at Aston Martin. That is a lot less than the amount that Vettel received at Ferrari. At the Italian race stable, Vettel was on 45 million Euros a year, but with the coronavirus crisis and its effect, the reduced salary is no surprise.
In addition to the amount, there is also more clarity about the duration. According to Bild, there is no question of a multiannual deal. Only for 2021 is it clear that Vettel will be racing, but the long-term project will want to see Vettel first leading the way in order to stay with the team even longer.
15 Million is a big pay cut from what he is on at present, but still a good sum for driving no more then 12000 kms for the year. This included races, free practices, qualifying and even testing. That is in excess of 1200 Euros per km driven for the year. I am sure any long haul truckies, cab drivers, uber drivers etc would kill to be paid that rate per kms. Admittedly Seb is paid that amount to drive a fair bit faster then drivers in the other occupations :)
Only for 2021 is it clear that Vettel will be racing, but the long-term project will want to see Vettel first leading the way in order to stay with the team even longer. You don't need more than a year to take all the photos and preparing the branding you need for advertising of your road cars in Germany. We know, If you were so chaffed about his current speed, why not give him three years?
why do i have trouble believing in the veracity of this article ?
They are stating it, but not as a fact, rather as a fictional premise.
Speculation. Vettel is his own manager and is notoriously tightlipped as is Stroll and company and Seb himself stated it was for next year and beyond. We'll just have to wait. But another topic of interest is why did Lance Stroll go to the Mercedes garage in P2 asking for Toto and why did they scoot off together to the Mercedes motorhome for a chat? This is of greater interest to me.
Lawrence sent Lance to go ask Toto: "When are we getting the next set of drawings for our upgrades?" Remember we paid you upfront at the beginning of the year. So Toto says to Lance, "My mind has been filled lately with my contract negotiations, come lets go have coffee, let me relax so that I can try to slowly remember what the engineers told me last week.
15million a year to do what you truly love and have a passion for awww happy for those few people who can experience that.
I'm retired and I love what I do but I am for sure not being paid as much. I am a world champion retiree, I should add.
Terrific Bob happy for you. I sadly am far from retirement but I've a career that I enjoy immensely so this is a bonus. Enjoy those golden years friend
