Ferrari made a promising impression on the general public during the test days in Barcelona. With Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc in its ranks, the team seems to be heading for a great season, but Mattia Binotto is keeping an open mind for the time being.
After the disappointing 2020 racing year, the team boss of the Italian racing stable knew that the level had to be raised quickly. Ferrari started the year 2021 with difficulty, but slowly the team developed further. It secured a third place in the constructors' championship, proving that Ferrari was on the way back.
With the new regulations, this season the road is open for Ferrari to compete with the top teams again. The Italians developed a car in recent months with which they immediately performed well on the Barcelona circuit. Binotto is satisfied with the result but the team boss is still aware of what is needed to maintain the high level.
Indeed, Binotto is convinced that the competition is not sitting still. "For judging the performance it is still too early," he therefore judges in conversation with Sky Italia. "Some teams are lowering expectations more than others. We will see that with the tests in Bahrain and with the first races."
The end of Binotto.....the serial cheat!
Here's the thing, Ferarri cannot afford to not be leading the pack or its front runner.
Last 4 years the entire F1 paddock had a stupid excuse of hybrid Era belonging to MERC..MCL, RBR, RENAULT...all had budgets but didnt get the idea.
So they reshuffle and we can already see managers growing seeds if excuses.
Everyone says Ferarri has to do well, but so does HAAS and ALPINE...and...and...and....
Ferrari needs a new leader Binotto is not the man. If they get wrong and keep him, then I see LEC and SAINZ off to different teams in the very near future...
Just looking at statistics, perhaps the Ferrari car wasn't as 'bad' as it was made to be in 2020, coming in 6th in the constructors championship, but it was because one of the drivers is not pulling his weight to help score points for the championship.
In 2021, Charles scored 159 points while his team mate scored 165 points, which is within 3+%, for a total of 324 points, and coming in P3 in the constructors championship.
In 2020, Charles scored 98 points, but Seb only scored 33 points, which is 1/3 of LeClerc's points for the season. Ferrari thus ended up with 131 points and came in P6.
Imagine, if 'the other driver' was able to score similar points to Charles, and Ferrari came in with 200+ points, then they would have come in P3 in the constructors championship, just ahead of McLaren.
