English press say Ferrari 'flunked it' signing Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton hopes to finally compete for the world title again in 2025 with his new team Ferrari. Domestically, there is some doubt about the Briton's qualities. One major newspaper argues that Verstappen should have been brought in by Ferrari.

Lewis Hamilton is statistically the most successful driver the UK has ever produced. Sir Lewis Hamilton has seven world titles, his last in 2020. In 2021, Hamilton lost the championship to Max Verstappen, and since then the Brit's performance has gone downhill. Of course, Hamilton's Mercedes hasn't been good enough to compete with the likes of Red Bull Racing.

At Ferrari, there is a belief that Hamilton still has the speed to compete for wins and titles. That is why the Scuderia decided to tie up the 39-year-old for '25. A huge blunder, according to the English newspaper Daily Mail. Verstappen should have been contracted by Ferrari instead, says the newspaper.

'Vasseur made a mistake'

"It is a mistake for Ferrari, the latest of Vasseur’s (a notable other example is to have jettisoned Carlos Sainz, rather than the error-prone Charles Leclerc). If he were shrewder, he would not have signed Lewis, who will be aged 40 by the time he turns a Ferrari steering wheel in anger. He would instead have enlisted Max Verstappen, now 26 and at the peak of his powers." States the Daily Mail.

"Whoever made the call, flunked it." Concludes the newspaper.

Lot of slack given to the article.
If one look at points highlighted, LH will be 40 and at that age you may not willing to take more risk compared to younger years.
One needs passion towards racing day in and out 24*7. Like Alonso. He is full time racing. There's nothing he does or think beyond racing. Can you compare that to LH, who do not want spend time in simulator and has so many side tracks.

Ham seems to have a talent for being in the right team at the right time.

Time will tell, but 26 will be the real test whether or not it was a good decision.

Only if Ferrari gives him a car he can challenge with, will we be able to see if it was a good call on their part.

Having said that, both Ferrari and McLaren seem to be closing in on RB,25 may be a similar season to what we had in 21 in terms of the gap at the front being closer.

If that's the case, his timing is impressive.I may be wrong, but Merc kind of still feels like they are a year behind in terms of understanding their car with the current regulations.
Not saying they won't win this year or next year,it just looks like Ferrari and McLaren is a bit closer.

'and since then the Brit's performance has gone downhill. Of course, Hamilton's Mercedes hasn't been good enough to compete with the likes of Red Bull Racing'
This 'journalist' has pretty much explained why LH isn't competitive at the moment
Verstappen wasn't available anyway !! so it's a non-comment to say Ferrari should have signed Max instead. the man's an idiot

Not the English press just this one guy, Jonathan Mcevoy writer for the Daily Mail he has written a string of negative articles towards Hamilton. So I wouldn't give him the time of day.
