F1 management finds apology inadequate and expels Piquet from the paddock'.
Despite apologies from Nelson Piquet and an explanation as to why the word he used does not necessarily have to be translated as the N-word, Craig Slater says he will not be given access to the F1 paddock.
Piquet was in the news this week after a recording emerged of him using the N-word about Lewis Hamilton during a podcast. It was about the moment Lewis touched Max Verstappen at the 2021 British Grand Prix and caused a huge crash.
Piquet under fire
Why the fragment was discovered so late is unclear, but F1, FIA and Mercedes immediately made a clear statement. This does not belong in Formula 1 and so the triple world champion was banned from appearing in the F1 paddock.
Piquet came up with a statement a day later in which he apologised for what he had said, but he also tried to explain himself. He said the word he used was a word also used in the Portuguese language to describe someone as a 'man' or 'guy'. He said he never intended to offend Hamilton.
F1 will not change its mind
However, Formula 1's management has not changed its mind after Piquet's apology and is sticking to its earlier choice. This was made clear to Craig Slater, reporter for Sky Sports, at Silverstone. ''As far as the leadership of Formula One is concerned, my understanding is that this excuse is not seen as sufficient to allow Nelson Piquet back into the paddock.''
''Damon Hill stated that what he (Nelson) said went too far and that is also the position that the top of F1 takes. It has been communicated quite clearly to me that for the foreseeable future he is not welcome in the paddock'', concludes Slater.
Jnr already tarnished the family name and Snr just had one of those "hold my beer" moments.

Good, Piquet has been a bully his entire life and has spoken ill of Senna since he died and called Mansells wife ugly which is incredibly ignorant and unprofessional of him. God only knows what sort of conversations he has with wife beater Jos in private if this is how he speaks publicly.

I just watched my last F1 race .Anyhow, they've ruined it. The money grabbers have got their dirty little mitts into what used to be one of the best spectator sports in the world
Lewis put publicly down his nephew who walked ik in girl clothes a nd is gay,, but he say sorry and no further action, a old F1 talks Brazilian (where the N word is usedin a other context) and gets banned for life, measured with 2 different standards or what.

No he didn't- total misrepresentation of what actually happened- all he said was the dresses were for girls when his nephew (4) wore a dress at Christmas. He since apologised.
ok, so he made 1 mistake, learned from it and made an apolegy. why is it then not allowed for piquet to make 1 mistake. explain it, and when nessecary apolegize and move on?
indeed, it is no debate. he explained it not to be any raceial slur. that is what you and other make of it. you are very shure about it. do you know the portugese language? especialle the brasilian? i dont so i looked it up and it can be axplaine in several ways. and how piquet explained it fits in the interview. so how are you 100% sure it was badly meant? your gut feeling?
He used racist denegrating language- that isn't up for debate- and then he tried to make an excuse for it.
if he didnt say anything that was hurtful, why should he apolegize then?
again, where is the official F1/FIA statement? this is just another brittis highly biased journalist that SAYS he heard it from F1
