For years,Red Bull Racing had the goal of winning the world title with Max Verstappen. Last season, the Dutchman finally succeeded by beating Lewis Hamilton. Helmut Marko therefore feels that Verstappen will fit in at Red Bull.

Verstappen made his debut at a young age at Toro Rosso, before moving on to Red Bull in 2016. At the latter team, he quickly proved to be a great talent, but did not yet manage to compete for the world championship. For years it seemed that it was impossible to beat Mercedes. Last season, however, that changed.

Marko enjoyed Verstappen's attitude

In the last season with Honda as engine supplier, Verstappen managed to finish on top. It immediately gave Marko a proud feeling, as he knew he could count on Verstappen in recent years. According to him, it is therefore an important reason that Red Bull is back in possession of the world title after eight years.

"Although we saw that with the Renault engine we would definitely not win a world championship, he was behind the team," Marko stressed in conversation with Autorevue. "We always involved him in what plans we had, also with Honda. That's why I believe his statements that he feels very comfortable with us."

Red Bull won a Drivers Championship not the constructors. He did not beat Merc to the Constructors title. Big difference. One pays the big bucks and the other pays nothing to the team.

In the end it is difficult to argue Mercedes had the fastest car, RB had the best driver.

As happy as RB is they went with Honda,I wonder if some serious questions hasn't been asked at Mclaren.

Honda coming into F1 was always gonna take time, especially against the dominant Merc engines.

But I think Mclaren would have been in such a good position today if they stayed with Honda.

Being a Merc customer you will always have to adapt your chassis to their engine design. RB is now in a very good position regarding packaging vs Mclaren.

McLaren had specific demands about the Honda engine, causing it to be not so good, read about that please. RB said to Honda, make the best engine and we build the car around it. So a complete different philosophy.

Interesting, but surely Mclaren couldn't ask Mercedes to change anything to the engine they were supplying,so would still be compromised.

True, I think McLaren realized that they can better not demand things from an engine manufacturer and just build a better car around it. Although it was not fair for them to blame Honda for the failure, big part of it were their demands.

Honda could, but McLaren brought them into F1 one year earlier then Honda wanted, so the engine was totally undevelopped still. Then the dimensions McLaren demanded resulted in major reliability and power issues. And instead of coming up with a solution it seemed McLaren was only blaming Honda so a breakup was eventually inevitable.

I honestly thought Honda could power Mclaren back to it's glory days.

Was sorely disappointed.

Yeah if I were RB I'd be bending over backwards for him too. What a talent.
