For now,
Liam Lawson will not return to
Formula 1 in 2024. All seats are taken, and so the New Zealander will have to wait to continue his
Formula 1 career. However, Marko stressed to
oe24 that
Sergio Perez's contract at
Red Bull Racing expires after 2024.
And that could be another good opportunity for Lawson. The New Zealander made his first competitive miles in a Formula 1 car in 2023 after
Daniel Ricciardo was injured during the second free practice at Zandvoort. Lawson managed to make a good impression, but Marko and his team decided not to put the junior in a seat in 2024.
Marko promises Lawson a seat in 2025
Should Perez leave Red Bull after 2024, there may be opportunities for the New Zealander at AlphaTauri or perhaps even
Red Bull Racing. Marko has previously said Lawson will get a seat in 2025: "
That's right, and before then he will have to drive at least a few more races so we can see how high his potential is."
