No victory for 'their' Sergio Perez, while thousands of Mexicans had taken their seats in the grandstands of the Miami circuit. Sadness all around, is also evident in the tone of the media in the Central American country.
Sports website Esto addressed the love Perez received from fans and the boos for Verstappen with a separate article. The medium wrote: "The triumph was for Max Verstappen, but the love and appreciation is there for Sergio Pérez." Esto continued, "You can be the best driver in Formula 1 today, it is not a guarantee that the public will love and accept you."
Another article on the same website rather clinically explained the course of the Grand Prix. In the end - Esto concluded - 'Mad Maxwassuperior' and Perez had to settle for second place, five seconds off the winner. "A remarkable difference from a Red Bull," the site realises.
In other media, the reaction to Perez's defeat was remarkably mild. No big words, mainly a factual account in the various media. Only a single newspaper still sticks a qualification on the performance of Verstappen, who passed Perez on his way to victory. Diario Amanecer, a national newspaper, was one such medium that admired - albeit cautiously - the way Verstappen drove in Miami: "As a result of this brilliant race, Verstappen, who repeated last year's victory and also set the fastest lap, now leads the world championship with 119 points, 14 more than 'Checo'."
It was just one word from which the appreciation sounded, but it was more than the rest of the media could get over their lips.
As a Mexican... What the hell is Diario Amanecer? National media? Never heard of it. We respect Max as a driver but he has always been... Well... An a**hole. He has mellowed at just a bit and the failure to pay back Checo in Brazil guarantees he'll be booed by Mexicans, nit the winning which he did fair and square. And yes, Mexico is in North America, language does not affect geography.
You can be the best driver in Formula 1 today, it is not a guarantee that the public will love and accept you."
It never is, Schumacher, Vettel and Hamilton were not loved either at some point of their dominance in F1. It is natural to root for the underdog.
It's true.
I believe 33 is now booed at over 50% of tracks. I think that is a record no one will beat and is safe with him.
"You can be the best driver in Formula 1 today, it is not a guarantee that the public will love and accept you."
Hehehe, with all the thousands of Mexicans there, this only showed 1 thing:
Mexicans are kinda sore losers!
"NO ERA PENAL" ?
Max does not elevate or exploit the audience by telling them they are wonderful and the best. He all speaks on the track. Who likes it or not, doesn't to care.
Yeah, Max doesn't suck up to the local audience in a cringe worthy way. Like Lewis did at Zandvoort in 2021. Showed up in an orange jumpsuit and said: orange is one of my favorite colors!
That was so awkward in Zandvoort, I was struggling to trust my eyes and my ears back then ?
I agree, he definitely doesn't feel the need to impress people with words.
He just does what a racing driver is supposed to do, which is drive and perform. And at this, he's the best at the moment, period! ?
Max is not here to make you happy,
He's a pure racer.
Passionate south American media will never understand that formula 1 is not wrestling.
They are missing witnessing greatness with their man alongside by sulking.
Still mega respect for 2021 and the person checo is from us Max fans
Lol I was in stitches, this booing nonsense all started in 2021 by the orange army and has caught on . Its not nice at all, but when it wasn't condemned way back then in 2021 well you have no one else to blame but yourself, I say.
If you started watching F1 in 2021, then yes, the booing started in 2021.
If you watch F1 since long time, you know that your statement is simply untrue..
And if you watched the 2014-2016 era, and don't remember HAM fans booing ROS, then you're either deaf or have a short memory.
Lol, nice one, and you forget that Lewis and Rosberg condemned the booing and it stopped.....until the orange army and a certain driver and team said nothing so , I smiled when we heard the booing at Miami, full circle. Brazil should be intresting.

Jep, definitely short memory!
Ps: Did you really post an article from sky sports as a reference? Well... ??
@ Vegan. Only thing that was a positive for you yesterday. I guess u had the last laugh. Whoop Whoop. So glad to hear of your life changing experience
Perfectly said Mate. And this has been going on for a very long time. Senna also faced a lot of racism in his time............
Senna, Schumacher, ALO, so many had to go through this. But never it has been that big of a deal as it is today, especially for a certain group of fans.
What amazes me is the fact that for them, the booing of their idol is worse that his idol sending his main opponent to the hospital.?♂️
We all know the real reason why orange army started booing a particular driver in the first place.
Let me give you a hint - A driver1 leading the championship got rear ended on one of the fastest corner on the calendar at Silverstone by driver2. Driver2's reward was meagre 10 seconds penalty, red flag under which his team fixed his car, race win and the worst part was the celebrations that followed after the race like nothing had happened.
Its full circle now, booing is accepted right ✅ or not accepted when its often directed at a particular driver
I think noone is blaming anyone and the one that could care the very least about it is Max! ?
"I'll just take home the trophy and they can go back to their house 'and have a great evening'" ☺️
