Red Bull Racing has built a dominant car in 2023. The RB19 has won all races so far and that does not seem to be changing anytime soon. Adrian Newey, technical director at Red Bull, says that this year's car is a detailed evolution of the RB18.
Max Verstappen won three races with the RB19 in 2023 and Sergio Perez won two. In qualifying, Red Bull's competition is still fairly close, but in racing, the Austrian team's advantage is huge. The RB19 seems to have no weaknesses and has some notable strengths, for example its high top speed and low tyre wear.
Newey is one of the main designers of the RB19 and explains how the car was designed. "So far, the basic concept has seemed to be decent. The RB19, compared to last year is a detailed evolution. We critiqued to the things we weren't happy with. The car was overweight, there were a few handling things that we weren't quite happy with," Newey said in the Talking Bull podcast.
Despite the fact that Red Bull seems virtually unbeatable in Formula 1 at the moment, Newey is not counting himself rich just yet. "You have to be pragmatic and on your toes. Because we still have 20 races to go. Others will be pushing hard and things can change so quickly in Formula 1. We have to keep pushing and see where we get to at the end of the year."
Yes, having a car that's running with turned down engines and still 30secs a race faster than the next quickest is ok now that max has his hands on it.
So you're saying it was fine for Mercedes to dominate most of a decade but it's evil when someone else designs a better car? Also, where is your proof Red Bull has detuned their engine?
If you are going to condemn merc dominance....only logical to carry the same approach to red bull.....else something else...non fact related is at play
For me, Adrian Newey's greatness in Formula 1 is unrivaled due to his ability to design winning cars. Despite numerous regulation changes, he consistently finds ways to push the boundaries of engineering and design successful racing cars. My only hope for my team Mercedes is that the RB19 has hit the performance design ceiling and that will allow us to catch up.
I'm sure there are lots of upgrades in the pipeline to make it better, they can't slow down then need to keep pushing, will only be happy when Verstappen laps the whole field
Don't know if you have seen the first shots of the new sidepods on the Merc, but it is definitely a big update. Still waiting to see what they have done with the rear suspension,if anything, but definitely trying something else this weekend. Brave as Monaco will not give you the best return as far as being able to gauge what it would do on 90% of the tracks.
