Sergio Perez is feeling good about the first half of the season. While he failed to seriously compete with Max Verstappen in every race, he did manage to be in the top three of the world championship. In conversation with Formula1.com he analyses the situation.
"I think it’s been a very good first half of the season," revealed Perez, who saw Red Bull grow throughout the race weekends. "So I think it’s there and everything is open in the championship."
Although he is in better shape than last calendar year, the difference between him and his teammate is a staggering 85 points. Perez told the media that his crashes during the first half of the season put a lot of the blame on the team.
"I think what has really killed my first half of the season has been the DNFs, to be honest. Without those DNFs my championship would have looked a lot different to what it is now. But overall, I think there are a lot of positives to take already from this half season."
This weekend, Perez has an immediate opportunity to show his worth at the Belgian Grand Prix. Last season's race weekend literally ended in the rain. For Perez, the race was an even bigger drama, as he lost control on the lap on the way to the start. As a result, he ended the weekend without any points.
