According to Helmut Marko, Red Bull Racing's car is already at its weight limit this year. By Auto, Motor und Sport Marko explains the differences between the RB19 and its predecessor the RB18.

It is always a challenge to get the car to the right weight, especially when a new technical regulation comes in, as it will in 2022. Consequently, many of the cars were heavier at the beginning of the season than at the end. Pierre Gasly and Max Verstappen, for example, complained that their cars were harder to drive because of the excess weight.

'We are already at the limit'

The second year of the rules clearly shows that teams have a better idea of what they are capable of. For example, many different teams have saved weight by not applying paint to the car. Red Bull Racing has remarkably not done so, and for a very conspicuous reason: doing so would put the car under the minimum weight limit.

"We are at the weight limit," Marko explained. "That was a strong performance by the team, considering how far over it we were last year. It's almost frightening how early we were ready with the new car this year and how smoothly everything has worked so far."
