Kevin Magnussen knows all about it after Miami. The Haas driver accumulated five penalty points on his licence due to a variety of incidents. The Dane cannot afford to make a misstep for the next 12 months, otherwise, he will be suspended for a Grand Prix. The fact that Magnussen received so many penalty points in Miami will not surprise anyone given the seriousness of the offences, yet there are plenty of cases in the recent past where drivers feel they were punished very severely after an incident.
Sergio Perez, who is on eight penalty points, for example, believes that the stewards are handing out penalties very easily. "It really needs to be looked at, because sometimes you are already punished with the consequences [of the incident] and then penalty points are added," said the Mexican.
"I think it's something that definitely should be looked at. Every incident, if you see all the points that every driver gets, there are a lot of points that are probably over the line. But the rule is there. But hopefully, in the future, it's something that can be reviewed," the Red Bull Racing driver said.
