Formula 1 is going to have Pirelli as its tyre supplier for the foreseeable future, it was announced on Tuesday. The Italian tyre manufacturer will supply tyres to Formula 1 teams at least until 2027, with the option for another year. Another tyre manufacturer in Bridgestone thus fell short of a deal with Formula 1 and has come out with a response.

Bridgestone not in Formula 1 for now

Pirelli's new deal with Formula 1 thus also revealed that Bridgestone will have to wait even longer for a return in F1.

The tyre brand also says it has been in communication with Formula 1 about a possible return. "F1 is the world's most prestigious global motorsport platform, and Bridgestone has been studying F1 as one of the various options to support its sustainable global premium motorsports strategy. Bridgestone has sincerely and continuously been communicating with FIA and FOG regarding the next tire tender period for F1 and proposed advanced innovative technology and sustainability initiatives."

Nevertheless, the pinnacle of motorsport opted for a renewed partnership with Pirelli. That does not mean, however, that Bridgestone is now putting Formula 1 aside altogether. Pirelli extended its contract until 2027. Bridgestone thus has a chance to make a comeback at the highest level from 2028, something described by the tyre supplier itself as a new opportunity.
