Ferrari will travel to the Japanese Grand Prix next weekend as race winners. The Italian outfit won its first race of the season in Singapore, breaking rival Red Bull Racing's winning streak. Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur is still aiming for second place in the constructors' championship.
Ferrari's car, the SF-23, was very fast in both Monza and Singapore, two completely different circuits. The Suzuka Circuit in Japan is another completely different circuit to Monza and Singapore, with lots of fast corners and straights. The question is whether Ferrari can also maintain its strong form on this type of circuit.
"With Singapore behind us, we immediately focused on the Japanese Grand Prix, one of the most enthralling races on the calendar for teams and drivers. The Suzuka track is very different to Monza and Marina Bay and it will give us the opportunity to see how the SF-23 performs in high speed corners with a medium-low aero set-up," Vasseur began.
Mercedes is currently second in the constructors' championship, but Ferrari has been closing in hard over the past two weekends. The gap between the two teams is now 24 points, compared to 56 points entering the summer break.
"We will tackle this weekend with the same approach we have adopted at the past few races, where we made further progress in terms of how we operate at the track. We are expecting to once again bring home plenty of points, as we continue to fight for second place in the Constructors’ championship," the Ferrari team boss concluded.
