Max Verstappen took the pole position on Saturday afternoon. He will therefore be the first to start in the
French Grand Prix, which has been dominated by Mercedes in previous years.
Pole position for Verstappen in France
The first two rows of the grid are occupied by
Red Bull Racing and Mercedes. Verstappen will start from pole, followed by
Lewis Hamilton in second place. It seemed that Mercedes wanted to give him a slipstream with the help of
Valtteri Bottas but to no avail.
Bottas will start third, with
Sergio Perez next to him. The Mexican will be looking to make things difficult for Mercedes at the start, and he seems to have the pace to do so.
After
Red Bull Racing and Mercedes, it is
Carlos Sainz who has secured the fifth starting spot.
Pierre Gasly is sixth on the grid, followed by
Charles Leclerc.
Lando Norris will start eighth, despite problems in the final stages of Q2. Fernando Alonso and
Daniel Ricciardo completed the top ten.
