W Series end season early due to finances: Chadwick champion

The W Series has decided to end the current season with immediate effect due to financial problems. Support from the Singapore Grand Prix allowed the race to continue over a week ago, but it was then unable to turn the situation around. As a result, Jamie Chadwick is the champion for the third time in a row.

The female motorsport class had only two race weekends left this season, in Austin and Mexico. The last weekend was supposed to feature two races. However, the organisation seemed unable to make this financially possible, so it set its sights on next season.

Chadwick won the first five races of the season, creating a big gap with Beitske Visser. The Dutchman finished second in the world championship with a 50-point gap from the winner. Chadwick managed the same in 2019 and 2021, while the season was cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Although there are fears that the W Series will also suffer next season, the organisation is confident that it will be present on the grid as usual next calendar year. However, there is still work to be done before that, as popularity is still not as hoped.

Maybe feminists should take a bit of time from cancelling people on twitter and sit down to watch and support women's sports more in order for them to be viable profit-making businesses.

Its a shame , my to grand daughters have been following the W series, they like F1 but they are so inspired to see girls racing . I have taken them to go Karting school and they are switched on to motorsport because of the W series . I hope they do get the sponsorship they deserve and see the benefits of the series with more female drivers starting to come through the feeder series .

So Chadwick was dominating W series as I took a look at the wiki page. Only time I've seen Chadwick race, was 2020 Formula Regional EU Championships, where she drove dominating Prema car and she had 3 team-mates who all 3 took top3 in the championship. And she got 9th place, even lost to Vips and Hauger who drove just half season with way worse cars. And surprise surprise she is also a Williams F1 development driver. Could she got this place if being a man, never. And that's the thing I don't like about all this. This we need certain number of gender drivers and we need certain number certain skin colour race personel, like Hamilton is saying. It's just wrong. All people should be equal and only performance should do the talking, whether you're a driver or a team member.

Its like in the Aussie V8 Supercars Series. There has only been 2 female drivers ever in the category. One of them, the commentators will be so excited if she is able to be in the top-15 position (in a 20+ car field), while the other is now a porn star She has realised that she is far better in that profession than driving race cars. ?

if they were good enough they'd be racing in F3 and F2 but they aren't and no one watches W Series no one in racing cares about male versus female. we just want to see the fastest drivers. put Chadwick in an F3 car and let her prove herself

Why don’t they just cancel the series entirely? No one is really interested to watch it. Sponsors definitely aren’t and that is why they have run out of money. Hurray for the 3 times champion, but put her in an f1 car and she will be slower than Latifi.
