Wolfff appalled by disappointing Mercedes: 'Nothing positive about it at all'
Should Lewis Hamilton and George Russell think Mercedes' result in the Bahrain Grand Prix was not that bad, they can hereby put that out of their minds. Indeed, according to Toto Wolff, there is "absolutely nothing positive" that the team can take from the opening race of the Formula One season.
"There is absolutely nothing positive that we can take from this race," Wolff gave an assessment to Sky Sports. Initially, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were reasonably positive as they expected a better pace in the race than in qualifying, but that expectation was not met.
Wolff: 'One of our worst races'
Mercedes could not match Ferrari's pace but also struggled heavily with Aston Martin drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. "We lacked pace. The drivers have to push and that's bad for the tyres. Red Bull are on another planet, Aston Martin have the second fastest car. It was a real wake-up call for us," concluded an upset Wolff.
"One of the worst days of racing. Not good at all," added the 51-year-old Austrian. He calls the huge gap to Red Bull Racing "painful". "It reminds me of our best years where we put a second on everyone else. That is the benchmark," Wolff said.
Toto, time to step up and take action! Your lack of enthusiasm for Red Bull and the FIA is consuming you from within like an insidious worm. Cheat if you have to - justice for Lewis Hamilton is owed by F1 and you ought to be the one enforcing it. Don't let Horner expose Lewis Hamilton to further embarrassment - show them that you can put an end to their toxic prattling. Make light of those fussy little things. We want to see you altering that car so it's better suited for Lewis and not George. You're not going to tell us that Lewis is capable of out-driving George in practice and testing but almost fails to make it to Q3 - something is definitely fishy here. Change that car, you've got the extra four million dollars you won't get penalised for - let's get started out by cracking open some crabs!

Neither Good things or Bad things lasts forever. They come in cycles. A team that has been at the top and expects to remain there forever is merely kidding themselves. Mercedes have been at the top of the tree for many years but its now time for other teams to be better. This season, two teams have moved the most in the ranking. AM has made a step upwards, while McLaren have dropped down the ladder.
There is nothing positive about MB. It proved that they are the 4th team, and that is worse than last season. I thought that this year they will surely take the one win more, but now with AM, they will be happy if they take the pedestal.
