Fernando Alonso can breathe a sigh of relief. The Alpine driver was still under investigation because of an 'unsafe release' in the Austrian Grand Prix. The stewards have now decided not to penalise the two-time world champion.
According to the stewards, it appeared that Alonso's left front wheel was loose when he was sent back onto the track, but it turned out to be a faulty part. The wheel was not loose when the Spaniard left his pit box.
Alonso finished tenth at the Red Bull Ring and can keep his World Championship point. That was different in Miami and Canada this season. In the United States, he originally finished eighth, but was subsequently given two five-second penalties and dropped out of the top ten. At the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit, Alonso's five-second time penalty for weaving took him from P7 to P9.
