Kevin Magnussen was held up during the first qualifying session for the
Spanish Grand Prix by
Daniil Kvyat. His first sector time was so slow that his engineer immediately noticed that this had happened. Yet Magnussen is not angry with the Russian afterwards.
"I know how little you see in situations like this. I don't blame him. His team just informed him too late on the radio," Magnussen said according to
Motorsport-Total.com.
Stewards take the situation into account
In the end the race stewards didn't see much in it either. They decided not to punish the Alpha Tauri driver at the end of Saturday afternoon. According to them it was clear that Kvyat Magnussen had stopped, but they couldn't determine if that was unnecessary.
They took into account the fact that the team did not inform their driver in time about the approaching Magnussen and felt that Kvyat did everything he could to get out of the way anyway. Kvyat gets away without a three-place grid penalty.
