McLaren had a great year last season. They finished third behind the teams of Mercedes and Red Bull. Also this season it seems that the British team can hold that position.
Lando Norris finished the
Bahrain Grand Prix in fourth position. He stayed ahead of
Sergio Perez. The confidence is therefore there with Norris.
"We are close, we are not far behind Mercedes and Red Bull compared to last season. I think we've closed the gap a little bit and hopefully, at some circuits, we can close the gap even more," he told Spanish
Marca.
Best of the rest
Another team that made its presence felt during the first race of the season was AlphaTauri. Debutant Yuki Tsunoda came in ninth. An excellent performance for the Japanese driver.
Norris, therefore, sees an exciting battle between AlphaTauri,
Ferrari and
McLaren emerging.
"It's hard to say if we are easily the best of the rest. I don't know what the pace of the AlphaTauri is, but I think the car is good. The positions are going to change between us, Ferrari and AlphaTauri. It looks like we are very close, so I am looking forward to the battle."
