The United States Grand Prix is one of the most popular races. In 2022, a record 440,000 fans visited during a three-day period. This season, an even bigger number is expected. Visiting the American Grand Prix in years to come? Or maybe you're going in 2023? This is your travel guide.

Where and when is the US Grand Prix in 2023?

For many drivers, the US Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) is among the favourites. In 2023, Formula 1 will host the circuit near the US city of Austin (Texas) from 20 to 22 October. It's a sprint weekend, so the format is slightly different. Click here to see the full F1 schedule. The Grand Prix will take place on Sunday.

How do you travel to the US GP?

Fans from Europe are likely to fly to Houston airport. Domestic flights go to Austin from here. The major airline Southwest Airlines has Austin as their home base, so many flights go there not only from Houston but also from many other US cities. By the way, from Houston, Austin can easily be reached by car in about 2.5 hours.

There are flights to Houston Airport from London, Paris, Tokyo, Toronto and more. If you require a connection, there are daily flights from New York, which serves most destinations worldwide.

Once in Austin, a (rental) car is highly recommended. The track is about 24 kilometres from the city centre, and there is hardly any public transport to COTA. There is a shuttle bus to the circuit, but it can be quite crowded. Consider hefty traffic jams before and after the races and a considerable walk from the car park.

Where to stay during the US GP?

Many Americans choose to travel to COTA in their motorhomes, where they enjoy three days of racing. Fans from outside the US usually stay in one of the hotels in Austin and the immediate surroundings. As with many Grands Prix, the closer you stay to the circuit, the higher the hotel prices are. A nice alternative can be Airbnb. Especially during events, many locals rent out rooms.

What do tickets for the US GP cost?

For two years, the Grand Prix in Austin has been the best-attended GP on the F1 calendar. To meet the high ticket demand, the organisers have again built additional grandstands for 2023. Half a million visitors are now expected over three days.

Not only the best attended, the race at COTA is also among the most expensive on the calendar. A grandstand seat for three days can be bought for $550. The cheapest grandstand seat for the entire weekend is $570. Those who prefer to sit in the main grandstand on the straight will have to pay $1170 per person. COTA does not sell tickets for single days.
