Lewis Hamilton needs to outscore his Mercedes teammate
Valtteri Bottas by 14 or more points to clinch his sixth F1 world championship in Mexico this weekend. So far in practice, Bottas is seemingly ahead. If the trend continues, Bottas will delay Hamilton's celebrations for at least another week.
What's happened so far this weekend?
Hamilton's weekend got off to a perfect start as he topped the timesheets in FP1, narrowly beating out
Max Verstappen and
Charles Leclerc. FP2 was very much
Sebastian Vettel's session as he beat
Max Verstappen to top the timesheets on Friday evening. It was a different story for Mercedes as they finished fourth and fifth, over half a second down on their rivals.
In FP3, Leclerc took the spoils but Vettel was close. The German backed off during the final sector of his final lap suggesting he has much more to give. Bottas finished third while Hamilton finished fourth. Both Renault cars didn't feature during the slightly damp session because of a hydraulic leak. Hulkenberg and Ricciardo will race wth new MGU-Ks but will not need a penalty.
