Horner lectures FIA: 'You want consistency'

The 2021 Formula 1 season was not only jam-packed with excitement, but also a lot of discussions arose about the decisions made by the race control. The FIA therefore decided to intervene early this year by replacing Michael Masi. Christian Horner does not think this is a good idea, he tells BBC Breakfast.
The former race director was ultimately responsible last season, so critics were quick to point at him at the end of th year. Within two months, the pressure had become so intense that the FIA made the decision that it was better to move Masi to another position and appoint someone else.
Horner doubts FIA decision
In the new season, not one, but two race directors will be in that position. Niels Wittich and Eduardo Freitas will alternate during the Grands Prix which should ensure that they start their work rested. According to Horner, however, this decision could also turn out to be fatally flawed.
"You want consistency, so having one race director for me was preferential, rather than splitting that role," says the Red Bull Racing team boss, who disagreed with Masi having to leave the field. "I thought it was harsh on Michael Masi that he was replaced after a lot of pressure put on him. Everything is back to zero, new season, new regulations."
