Since the start of the season in Bahrain, we've seen the Mercedes powered cars congregate towards the rear end of the grid. That trend has appeared to continue in Australia this weekend. It was only the McLarens of Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris that managed to break into the top 10 of the eight Mercedes powered cars on the grid.

Hamilton still behind

With the Mercedes factory team not able to bring their upgrades they have continued to struggle, especially Lewis Hamilton as he finished behind his teammate George Russell again. Although only by a few tenths this time, a repeat of the Saudi Arabian qualifying should be avoided by the seven-time world champion this weekend.

A second gap to the top

Norris as the fastest Mercedes powered car is still a second behind the top time of Charles Leclerc. Ambitions of a repeat podium for Mercedes and Mercedes powered cars to add on to Hamilton's one in Bahrain aren't optimistic at the moment. However, there's still a lot of time to change as there are just under 22 hours till the car set ups are locked for Qualifying.
