Gasly reflects on his future: 'I want more than that'
- GPblog.com
After the contract extension for Sergio Perez, Pierre Gasly knows one thing for sure: a return to Red Bull Racing is not in the cards for him in the short term. Gasly himself has a contract until the end of 2023 with Red Bull, which has moved him to AlphaTauri.
Logical
For Gasly, Perez's contract extension comes as no surprise. He, therefore, calls it logical. "If you look at what a second driver should deliver, Pérez ticks all the boxes. He is performing well this season, is fast, has financial backup, a lot of experience and gives the team good feedback," Gasly told De Telegraaf.
But baulking, Gasly does. Perez's new commitment is one with consequences. "This decision has an impact on my career and ambitions. That's why we now have to look at how to move forward." Gasly will think in the upcoming period where his future lies: staying at AlphaTauri or perhaps he should make the switch to another team.
Higher goals
Gasly does not want to settle for a supporting role anymore: "My ambitions are higher than just fighting for a place in the top 10, I want more than that. In recent years I have proven what I am capable of. Also in more difficult times, because this year we are not as competitive as last season."
