Pierre Gasly's season has not gone to plan as of yet. In the world driver's championship standings his teammate Yuki Tsunoda leads him by 5 points. Although the Frenchman has the opportunity to change this weekend as he starts sixth.

Best for the team

So a great starting position can translate to a boat load of points. Logically, the Frenchman was happy. "This is my best qualifying of the year," he jubilated in a press release from his team AlphaTauri. "I don't think we could have hoped for anything better for the team. It's great that we have both cars in the top 10 today."

Gasly praised the work AlphaTauri had done. The car runs like a train on the long straights of Baku. And who knows where to place six will lead. Gasly's thoughts go back to last year. "Everything is possible here in Baku, we saw that last year with our podium."

Hard tires

Still, caution is needed. Gasly knows that a mistake is quickly made and red flags have been waved regularly during this Grand Prix. AlphaTauri - so he says - has settled into a good starting position in case something happens at the front. But: "We have one set of hard tires, whereas other teams have two. So about the strategy, we have to think carefully. But today I am very happy with our overall performance."
