Carlos Sainz knows that Ferrari cannot afford any more mistakes if they are to challenge Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing in both World Championships. The 27-year-old driver, who himself had been part of the Red Bull family for a while, said in Budapest that he is ready to fight.

"It's clear for Ferrari. We need to win those races Max wants to win. Getting those 25 points makes a big difference in the points swing. I think there's a lot of things that could happen at the front," Sainz remains hopeful as he appears before the Sky Sports microphone. He also doesn't think Verstappen is already standing with the world title in his hands several weeks in advance. "Always a great battle that will keep going until the end of the year," he said.

With Sainz in Austria and Charles Leclerc in France, precious points were lost in the battle for the constructors' World Championship. The gap there is 82 points after twelve Grands Prix. Sainz's gap to Verstappen is even bigger: 89 points. The Madrid native knows it will be difficult, but he is not about to throw in the towel.

Bit of luck might be needed for Ferrari

"It's true, we maybe need some help from Red Bull in reliability or DNFs, but even without those statistically if it's open, it's open. You can't give up. That's number one rule in sport, until it's possible you need to keep believing and keep yourself in the fight. Until then, we will keep trying,", Sainz said ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
