Leclerc confused with Ferrari strategy: "I don't know why I was on hards"
Charles Leclerc looked to have the Hungarian Grand Prix under control but Ferrari reacted to Max Verstappen's pitstop by trying to cover off the undercut. As a result, it was too early to put on the soft tyre and Leclerc was placed on the hards.
Hard tyres not good enough
All weekend, most members of the paddock didn't enjoy using the hard tyres. And during the race, Alpine used the hard tyres to no great effect. Still, Ferrari opted to use them and in his post-session interviews, Leclerc confirmed he was confused with the strategic decision.
“I don’t know why I was in hard, I don’t have the answer yet. The strategists were doing the job, I don’t understand, I’m waiting for the explanations. At the beginning, we had the right strategies. The mediums were good tyres, I had a good feeling," Leclerc told Canal+.
Championship out of reach
It's still mathematically possible for Leclerc to win the world championship, but with an 80-point lead Max Verstappen can afford three DNFs and still lead the standings. With nine races remaining, it's looking unlikely that Leclerc will be in the fight for much longer. The man from Monaco wants to review everything during the summer break.
"We will speak out that inside the team and aim to get better," Leclerc told Sky Sports.
