Ferrari is at the end of a turbulent season. Whereas at the beginning of the year it looked like Mattia Binotto 's team could compete for the world title, Max Verstappen seems to be winning the world championship by a wide margin. According to Luca di Montezemolo, it is then understandable that criticism is coming, he told L'Équipe.

Di Montezemolo was president of Ferrari between 1991 and 2014 and therefore experienced the successes of the past up close. The now 75-year-old Italian also thought in the first race weekends that Ferrari would have a good chance, disappointing the team.

Di Montezemolo understands criticism of Ferrari

Among other things, Ferrari has been criticised for the team's strategic mistakes in 2022. Moreover, the reliability of the car proved disappointing, at the expense of a number of podium finishes. Although Sainz previously termed the opinions as too firm, Di Montezemolo believes it comes with the territory.

In fact, the Italian businessman knows Ferrari no different. "We all make mistakes," Di Montezemolo responded. "We made mistakes in my time, even Mercedes and Red Bull make mistakes. At Ferrari, only nothing is forgiven, because Scuderia is Scuderia."
