A survey called F1 fan voice has been launched out to fans today. It will gather opinions from fans on how they want an F1 weekend to look in the future. Options include shorter races and ‘sudden death situations’.
As was confirmed by
Chase Carey, TV audiences have been falling recently and Liberty Media are keen for this not to escalate.
Auto Motor und Sport revealed recently that Saturday sprint races are on the list, as well as removing the third practice session. Sporting director Steve Nielsen suggests they are going to look at every idea given to them.
“There are some fundamental questions being asked, of all of us, as well as fans,” said Nielsen.
“For example, we’re asking about what kind of weekend format we should be pursuing; how much free practice should there be; how many races should we have; should there be more than one F1 race on a weekend, what should qualifying be?
“We have our own ideas but we want to gauge opinion, as many opinions as possible.”
What would like to see a change in an F1 weekend? Would shorter, but more races work in
Formula 1? Surely something has to be done to change the decline in TV figures.
