Perez struggled to follow Hamilton: 'I gave everything'

Sergio Perez crossed the finish line in third place at the Mexican Grand Prix. The Mexican had hoped for a better result in his home race, but overtaking proved very difficult.
After a strong start by Perez, overtaking George Russell for third place, the Mexican drove a trouble-free race. In the second half of the Grand Prix, Perez came close to Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes, but an overtaking move did not materialise.
"I gave my best today at the start. I really pushed hard. Unfortunately, we had a bit of a bad stop, which prevented us from undercutting Lewis. Overtaking was difficult because as soon as I got behind him it was difficult to follow, so I had to stay in third," he said.
Perez expected more in Mexico
Despite having hoped for more, the Mexican is still happy to finish on the podium in front of his home crowd. "I thought we were going to be a bit closer, unfortunately, it didn’t work out for us today. It’s a good podium. In front of this crowd I really wanted more but third place is still a good day," Perez told reporters after the race.
