Magnussen grabs surprising pole in Brazil
Magnussen was at the front of the queue at the start of Q3. That proved to be a crucial decision, as by quickly clocking a good time he secured himself a good starting position for the rest of qualifying. Because it would turn out a few minutes later, George Russell prematurely ended everyone's attempt to improve before it erupted.
The ensuing red flag meant the top ten remained for what it was, with Magnussen surprisingly on pole and Verstappen on P2. Russell secured P3 with his action. Next to him, Lando Norris will start, with Carlos Sainz and Esteban Ocon behind him on the third row. Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are together on the fourth row, followed by Sergio Perez and the unfortunate Charles Leclerc.
